Carpet Bald Spots: What They Mean and How To RepairHave you ever looked at your carpet and noticed that it has bald spots? These are areas where there are fibers missing. Have you ever wondered to yourself why exactly those fibers are missing? Have you looked closer and noticed things that look like paper or wood shreds close to those bald patches?
If so, you have an infestation of carpet beetles. These pests are also known as carpet moths. Don’t worry, you don’t get an infestation because you live in a dirty mess. These pests can infect anyone’s carpet. You may wonder why these beetles like carpet so much. It isn’t only carpets they like. They also enjoy the natural fibers that can be found in your curtains or clothes. The beetles can digest the keratin protein that is found in the fibers, meaning if you have a carpet rich in wool or silk, your carpets could become the feeding ground of the beetles. They tend to prefer areas in the carpet that have a little moisture in them, too, even if it’s sweat, because they feed off that as well. The beetles live best in areas of the carpet where it is dark. They lay eggs there and, when they hatch, the larvae casings are left behind. If you find that you have an infestation of carpet beetles, don’t fret, there is something you can do. When you call us at Carpet Cleaning Nurse's Touch quickly, the beetles will not become a big issue. We will first have to vacuum the area well to get rid of the beetles, and then use a natural, safe agent on the carpets to eradicate the beetles completely. If that doesn’t work, for some reason, an insecticide can be put on the carpet to ensure they are completely gone. Then, the only problem you will have left is the actual bald spot left on the carpet. If you have an off cut available of the same exact carpet, it can be repaired. The off cut must be very similar in color and in wear, though, to not be noticeable. If you prefer measures to help prevent an infestation, you can simply vacuum your carpets regularly. This includes the areas that are harder to reach, such as the corners and under furniture. Luckily, there are attachments to most vacuum cleaners that can make this easier to accomplish. This is one of the reasons that we recommend regular professional cleaning of your carpets. |
